Many of constituents may be aware that Bank of Scotland are planning to close their branches in Braemar and Ballater.
On behalf of those constituents who rely on local access to in-person banking services, today Andrew spoke directly with Bank of Scotland representatives to get more information on their plans, to ensure customers are not disadvantaged and to ask how they will maintain access to cash.
Alongside local Cllrs Sarah Brown and Geva Blackett from the Aboyne Upper Deeside and Donside ward, Andrew raised concerns about digital connectivity impeding online banking access, as well as the resources available to those who can't or don't want to bank online.
Bank of Scotland have stated that they are keen to see a Post Office solution if possible as that would enhance access to by increasing the number of open hours. They have also stated that they intend to work with communities to ensure ATM provision is maintained, alongside running pop up facilities to smooth the transition. A community hub has also been proposed, and we are waiting to hear more details on how this would work.
Andrew will be working closely with the local councillors and community to feed back to the Bank of Scotland as this develops.
