Local West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine food and drink producers were recognised at the 2024 North East Scotland Food and Drink Awards. The awards dinner, held at Meldrum House Country Hotel, saw a number of local businesses shortlisted for awards and a local brewery awarded.
Laurencekirk based Burnside Brewery walked away with an award for Best new drink product (no and low) for their alcohol free lager, Wayfinder. The local brewery was established in 2010 by friends Gary and Steve the businesses has went from strength to strength supplying bars and shops throughout North East Scotland and reaching across Scotland.
Following their success Andrew congratulated the team in Laurencekirk describing it as a “tremendous achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication” that they have put in to the business.
In a letter to the brewery Andrew explained how, as the Member of Parliament for the area, that he is always “proud to see local businesses thriving and making a positive impact on our community”.
After speaking with one of the founders at the awards dinner, and learning of their plans to grow their presence in the export market, Andrew highlighted the support offered by the UK Government for businesses looking to break out into the export market and offered the support of his office.
Other businesses in constituency were shortlisted for awards and recognised for their enormous contribution to the diverse and vibrant North East food and drink sector. Shortlisted businesses from West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine included: Balmoral Game, Mearns Marmalade, Kincardine Castle Kitchen, Lost Loch Spirits, and Westerton Farmers.
