Several West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine churches are set to receive a funding boost from the UK Government’s Listed Places of Worship scheme (LPW). The scheme covers the VAT bill on substantial repairs to churches that have listed building status.
Eight churches in the constituency are set to benefit from a total of £34,738.
Following the announcement Andrew highlighted the “year-round community and voluntary efforts” of churches.
“The festive period is a time when many people, rightly, look to their local place of worship as a focal point for the season.
“But the sort of community service they provide is kept up at all other times with year-round community and voluntary efforts.
“Sadly, church buildings are often in need of major repair which can’t always be met out of their own coffers.
“So it’s brilliant that the UK LPW scheme is there to some of the sting out of hefty repair bills, keeping these vital places of worship warm and welcoming for local people, at all times of year”
The churches set to benefit from grants are St Thomas's Episcopal Church, St Cyrus Church of Scotland, Mid Deeside Parish Church of Scotland - Torphins, Kemnay Parish Church, Inverbervie Church Centre, Fetteresso Church of Scotland Stonehaven, Arbuthnott Church, and Aboyne-Dinnet Parish Church
