SSEN Transmission has extended the consultation period for their proposed new electricity infrastructure between Kintore and Tealing until Friday 28th July to allow more time for those interested in the project to share their views.
The proposals include plans to develop a new 400kV overhead electricity transmission line between Kintore, Fiddes and Tealing, which includes new substation at Fiddes.
Developing new energy infrastructure is needed to meet our net zero ambitions and become improve our energy security. However, it’s crucial that any new infrastructure projects must be built with consent and must meaningfully engage the affected communities.
I was pleased to meet SSEN bosses a couple of weeks ago with Mairi Gougeon MSP, and discussed how many people in the Mearns felt disengaged with the amount of information provided, and they want more opportunity to feed back.
The majority of responses I have had recognise the need for vital infrastructure to connect renewable power sources with communities across the UK. It’s the process so far which has been criticised.
More time will allow the company to get the lay of the land. That will be beneficial for both the planning phase and residents along the proposed route. It’s the right thing to do.
Feedback from the project will now be welcomed until Friday 28 July, an additional extension of five weeks, in recognition of the extent of local interest in the project and to allow stakeholders and members of the community more time to share their views on the initial proposals. The consultation was originally extended by two weeks until Friday 23rd June, but teams hope that a second extension will allow all those with an interest in the project additional time to provide feedback.
