Andrew visited Kongsberg Maritime’s offices in Westhill this week to learn more about their work in the constituency.
The Norwegian business first arrived in the North East in 1983 and have had a presence in the region ever since. The site in Westhill, one of six in the UK, focusses on delivering integrated solutions to the challenges faced by those operating around the maritime domain.
Alongside this, the site in Westhill is also home to a simulator where Kongsberg helps to train crews on various types of vessels, preparing them for any eventuality, using equipment developed by the company.
“The simulator that the team here in Westhill have is truly breath-taking, it really felt like I was back on board the bridge of a ship sailing into port. I’m in no doubt that it is a huge benefit to the crews that come here, from all over, to train.”
Thanks to the £1bn worth of investment into their UK operations, thousands of jobs across Scotland and the entire United Kingdom continue to be supported.
Today, Kongsberg is heavily involved in developing new technologies for the offshore energy industry here in North East Scotland, equipping the industry for the future as it transitions.
Further to this they are directly engaged in the development of the ground-breaking technology soon to be found on board the Royal Navy’s new vessels to built in Scottish shipyards, such as Kongsberg manufactured stabilisers and navigation equipment.
Following his visit Andrew said that it is “great to see a major company investing in the North East of Scotland, not just in supporting our vital offshore industry but also supplying the Royal Navy and British Army.”
