I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who kindly donated to Alzheimer's Research UK by sponsoring me to run the London Marathon. Thanks to you, I have now raised over £1600 for the charity- one that is very close to my heart.
As you all know, I wasn't aiming for a time at all, only to finish. In the end, I managed to achieve a time of 3hrs 40mins, which meant I was the fastest MP out of the 16 that ran it. Which, for a first time, isn't too shabby I think!
It is frequently said that the marathon shows our capital city, and our country, at it's best. Having experienced it now for the first time, I have to agree. The volunteers, police, St John Ambulance and, above all, the crowds of people that lined the entire route, cheering everyone that attempted the run, showed human nature and the spirit of the British people, at its finest.
I haven't decided whether to return next year to defend my time and my fastest MP title, but for this year, and for all your support, thank you!
