SSEN have announced that they are now exploring alternative potential sites for their proposed new substation around the Fiddes area of the Mearns.
Following their announcement Andrew said:
“This is an important decision for SSEN that demonstrates local voices are having an impact.
It shows the value of local communities engaging with the company to demonstrate their feelings and shows that there will be room for manoeuvre along the transmission route.
I have been present in meetings with communities and SSEN and the passion of many people to preserve their beautiful landscape is obvious, I am sure that constructive dialogue will continue at the likes of Laurencekirk tomorrow (14/07/2023).
And I hope that moves such as this will give communities some assurance that their voices can, and will, be heard.”
The announcement comes as the consultation for the substation and related pylon infrastructure continues until the 28th July 2023. Those wishing to participate can do so here.
Andrew has encouraged residents to share their thoughts on the proposals saying “It is crucial that those who want to share their thoughts with SSEN do so. By doing so we can ensure that SSEN is able to consider the thoughts of residents in relation to their proposals.”
