With the 2nd anniversary of the tragic events at Carmont we remember its impact on the North East, and the heartache so many of us experienced.
It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since Donald Dinnie, Chris Stuchbury, and Brett McCullough were sadly lost in the tragedy.
In the period that has followed, Carmont has been of the most investigated and closely studied rail accidents in modern times. As a result of how close to home the accident was, and how many of us travel along that line I’m thankful that the investigators have work so diligently.
It’s important that we allowed the investigation the time it required to draw the necessary conclusions and so lessons can be learned. I’m glad that many of the recommendations from the investigation have already been implemented.
I can only hope that the conclusion of the final piece, the police investigation, will help heal the pain that emerged from the accident.
Today my thoughts will be firmly with Donald, Chris and Brett’s families during what I’m sure will be a difficult time for them.
