Andrew has written to residents urging them to participate in the UK Government’s consultation on the proposed changes to the consultation process for Energy Infrastructure Consenting in Scotland.
Andrew has endeavoured to keep constituents updated as best he can on any information or progress related to SSEN’s plans. Whilst there has been no further update from SSEN themselves, there has been an important development from both the Scottish and UK Governments which will undoubtably impact this, and future infrastructure projects like this.
Andrew has previously advised that the new Government’s plans to massively increase various forms of energy generating technology, like onshore wind and solar panels, will be cause for concern for communities like those in West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, who will worry about the associated infrastructure that these projects bring.
Whilst HM Opposition continues to push for the Government to undertake a rapid review into the advantages of alternative network technologies, and to ensure that local consent is placed at the heart of any network plans. Both the Scottish and UK Governments appear to be set on taking a different path.
The UK Government have published a consultation document and are seeking comments on their proposals to change the consultation processes for Energy Infrastructure Consenting in Scotland.
The consultation documents can be accessed here - https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/electricity-infrastructure-consenting-in-scotland
The Consultation will close on 29th November 2024. Andrew has noted that time is short and is urging constituents to try and find the time to provide their own comments to the consultation as this potential piece of legislation will have a dramatic and long-lasting impact on all current and future energy infrastructure projects such as the Kintore – Tealing proposals.
Andrew has pledged to continue to support all the communities affected by the current SSEN proposals and do what he can to ensure that rural communities are not bypassed or simply ignored, in the Government’s rush to implement their new energy infrastructure plans.
