Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have submitted plans to build a 400kV Overhead Line and a new substation at Fiddes, near Arbuthnott. Under current proposals it will then travel north to Kintore through Kirkton of Skene. If you would like more information on the plans or to submit comments, please visit SSEN’s website here.
New energy infrastructure is needed to meet our net zero ambitions and become more energy dependent. But this must be built with consent and those responsible must meaningfully engage with communities affected.
I have been contacted by a large number of constituents who have expressed concerns about the project and regarding the way SSEN have conducted the consultation process.
It is my belief that this energy infrastructure in its current configuration does not meet the needs of the various communities impacted along the route.
Recently I heard from hundreds of people at a meeting in the heart of the Mearns, organised by Save our Mearns. SSEN have let down our communities by rushing through this consultation and many residents feel they are not being listened to, nor that this special, historic and prime agricultural land is being respected.
I have been working together with local Councillors, MSPs and with everyone the length of the planned line and around the substation to ensure their views are listened to, respected and that alternative options are presented.
After public pressure, SSEN have extended their short consultation window up to 23rd June 2023. I would strongly encourage anyone who has comments on the plans to make them at the above website.
SSEN recently agreed to meet with myself and Mairi to discuss your concerns. You can read more here.
