Andrew Bowie MP and West Garioch Councillor Sam Payne
Andrew Bowie MP has welcomed funding from Aberdeenshire Council to repair and upgrade the riverside footpath in Kemnay after it was damaged during storms last winter.
The footpath along the banks of the River Don was flooded resulting in much of the path being washed away. The rocky base left behind has left the popular walking route difficult and unsafe to walk on.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Garioch area committee approved the upgrades which will see the path widened and covered in asphalt. These upgrades will help to ensure that any future flooding will not result in the same damage.
The upgrades are hoped to be completed over the winter so that the path will be ready for spring.
Andrew said: “I am delighted that the riverside footpath has received funding and will be repaired.
“Having visited the footpath in the days after the storm last November, and recently also revisited the site, this is a fantastic outcome for Kemnay residents from Aberdeenshire Council.”
