Andrew Bowie MP has written to residents in Portlethen and Westhill following a number of constituents complaining of an increase in anti-social behaviour.
Andrew said; “It’s concerning that the number of complaints I’ve received regarding anti-social behaviour has increased so much in recent times, I am actively communicating with the residents who have raised issues, contacting constituents in affected areas, and working with Police Scotland to find a solution to this increasing problem”
In his letter to residents in Portlethen Andrew explains that several residents suggested that the rise in anti-social behaviour could be linked to the recent draw down of a local police presence and the lack of facilities for young people.
Andrew recently campaigned against the closure of the police station in Portlethen and last year conducted a small survey in the area asking residents if the thought their was more need for facilities focused towards the town’s young people.
The recent incident in Westhill outside a local restaurant and residents again raising their concerns about an increase in anti-social behaviour similarly shocked Andrew.
In both letters to residents Andrew explains that following these complaints he has written to the North East Divisional Commander of Police Scotland seeking a meeting to discuss how local policing teams intend to respond to these incidents.
He adds that prior to his meeting with Senior Officers he would appreciate it if residents could share further information or their personal views with him.
