Andrew has writtein to the new First Minister, John Swinney MSP, highlight the work Men's sheds across Scotland do in tackling issues like lonliness and promoting physical and mental health amongst men, particularly in older generations.
Despite the efforts of volunteers they are in desperate need of funding and are facing an uncertain future. With other Governments elsewhere recognising the positive contribution to society the sheds make, Andrew believes that the Scottish Government must recognise this too.
After a Scottish Government funding deal for the Men's Shed network expired in 2023 the organisation was placed in a precarious position. Following pressure from membrs of the public and other Members of the Scottish Parliament a short-term funding settlement of £75,000 was allocated.
This settlement is expected to expire this month and the Community Wealth Minister has not stated that there are plans to continue this funding.
In his letter to the First Minister Andrew urges him to instruct his ministers to explore options on how a long-term funding solution can be found for Scotland's Men's Sheds.
